Lenten Workshop 2010

February 21

9:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Lenten Banners: Make a Lenten banner for your home.  Material and ideas for banners are available here, as well as volunteers to help you create an original design.

Pretzels for Lent:  Pretzels are a traditional form of Lenten bread, dating to that time when only unleavened bread was eaten in this season.  Stop by this center to make your own pretzel.  Our volunteers will bake it for you so you can enjoy it later in the morning.

New Life Bulbs:  Flower bulbs appear to be dead and lifeless, much like the crucified body of Jesus on Good Friday.  However, like the tomb, new life will eventually emerge from it.   At this center you can plant a bulb to take home and watch its development during Lent.

Lenten Crosses:  Crosses are a traditional symbol of Lent.  Children are invited to stop at this center to decorate a cross to hang in their room at home, a reminder of God’s great love for his people.

Lenten Prayer Bowl:  Stop by this center to create a special prayer bowl for use during Lent.  Throughout the season, you can place in your prayer bowl the names, pictures or symbols of people and concepts for which you commit to pray.

At the workshop participants will have an opportunity to make Lenten banners for home use.  Several craft activities will also be available for children and adults while another center will provide supplies where attendees can make (and later eat) their own Lenten pretzels.  Copies of the church’s 2010 Lenten Devotional will be available for distribution, along with other resources for children, teens and adults.
