Join the Youth Fun at Second Pres!

Second Presbyterian Church has many opportunities for youth (6th through 12th grade) to have fun, grow spiritually and socially, and serve our church and community. Middle School and Senior High youth meet separately for Sunday school and weekly informal youth group. In addition, each group has an annual youth conference. We plan several activities together on a monthly basis. Youth input into these activities is welcome and valued. About a third of what we do stems from ideas of participating youth. We would love to have you join us.

Middle School - Sunday school is led by Lois Glennon. The students are working through the Bible, starting in the Old Testament at a slow pace to promote discussion and understanding. Lois is a seasoned teacher and uses many different teaching methods. Lots of them are fun! Middle School youth meet every Wednesday from 6 - 7:30 p.m. with Micki Paxton (Coordinator of Youth Ministries). Wednesdays focus on teen issues. We have free game time and talk about what is going on in our lives and about things we want to do or have done. We are currently working through a series (Revolution) on difficult teen issues (guilt, worry, anger, doubt, and impact) featuring nationally-known youth leader Doug Fields. This is a video series with supporting scripture and discussion guides.

Senior Highs - Sunday school is led by Micki Paxton. We are working through the Bible, starting in the New Testament using a guide from an NIV teen youth Bible. Lessons are supported by activities and Bible Jeopardy! Senior High youth meet every Sunday from 6 - 8 p.m. We follow the same basic schedule as the Middle School on Wednesdays and are working on the same video series.

Youth experience many other opportunities at Second Pres. In the service area, we participate with Project SHARE every month and run the soup kitchen on a weekend. In the past we have supported Safe Harbour through "One Night Without a Home" and have participated in the Crop Walk and the Heart Walk. In addition, the youth help out in many ways at the church and do things for congregation members.

Some youth participate in an After-School Program, allowing them to get help with homework and have some fun free time. In the summer we have SOFT (Summer of Fellowship Time) during which we have Bible study, do some service work in the morning, and enjoy fun in the sun in the afternoon.

In the fun department during the past year, we have enjoyed many activities, including a trip to Hersheypark, paintball, ice skating, and a rope course challenge. In addition, we participate in Presbytery-planned activities, which enable us to meet youth from surrounding churches.

We know that the future holds so many more exciting and rewarding opportunities for us, and we hope that you'll choose to grow with us. Call me anytime (243-4571, church) or (448-0170, cell) or email me at micki@secondprescarlisle.com. Micki Paxton
